Indian Cat Breeds

Cat lovers in India will swear by the charms of these Cat Breeds, Cats undoubtedly have become the new dogs in an Indian Household, so much so, that a Mars India study put Persian, Siamese Cats and Short Haired Indian Cat Breeds as most popular among the forty plus lakh cats in India. Most of these cute felines reside in urban areas.

Persian Cat

Persian cats are suitable for small apartments and require regular grooming, also immensely popular in the USA

Features: A long white mane and deep set twinkling eyes.

Temperament: May act a bit fussy and demanding but mostly independent.

Siamese Cat

If you wish for an all-day companion, this breed can be perfect for you.  This breed in South East Asia and originated in Shanghai.

Features: Medium-build, slender legs, small-oval paws and a triangular face.  Its mongoloid eyes slant inwards.

Temperament: Will start crying when ignored. They love a lot of attention.

Spotted Cat

The quintessential Indian Billi is the most common breed found in India and adjusts well to the Indian climatic conditions.ou can easily spot this cat roaming in your neighborhood alleys. 

Features:  It has a long tail that is darker than its body. Its fur is covered in grey spots. It has a sturdy build.

Temperament:  A friendly and loving cat that will always be by your side.

The American Bobtail:

This uncommon domestic cat is most famous for its bobbed tail. American Bobtails are intelligent and loving cats. They are interactive and bond easily with great devotion. They are fond of playing games.

Features- This cat is recognized by its cute tail that is one-third the length of its total body. It has a muscular body type, shiny coat and fluffy long hair.

Temperament- This breed is playful and adjusts well in any environmental setting. It is a smart cat that enjoys puzzle toys and playing fetch. It is devoted to its human family
